Insert an URL in the site structure

Overview

In some situations you will want to populate a frame in the site with static content. This can of course be done by making a direct reference to the URL address in the HTML template.

However, by inserting a URL site element in the site structure you gain a much better control about what you want to show and to whom you want to show it to.

E.g. you can have a frame that you populate with a static picture for users, who are not logged in - and with a business process for users who are logged in.

Inserting the URL site element in the site structure makes it possible for you to change the URL referenced using the administration interface instead of having to update a template.

Preparations

The frame you want to populate with the URL must be defined using the menu item "Site structure -> Frames" in the administration menu before you create the URL.

Inserting the URL

Use the menu item "Site structure->Site Structure" in the administration menu.

You can use the URL defined in two slightly different manners:

Populate a frame when it it is loaded by the frameset

  1. Select the frameset that should load the frame in the site structure tree.
  2. Press "Add". This starts a wizard that will lead you through the process.
  3. Select "Create new site element" and "URL", press "Next".
  4. Supply information about the site element, and press "Next"
  5. Assign the roles for the site element, and press "Finish"

Populate a frame when a menu item is activated

  1. Select the menu that must contain the menu item loading the URL.
  2. Press "Add". This starts a wizard that will lead you through the process.
  3. Select "Create new site element" and "URL", press "Next".
  4. Supply information about the site element, and press "Next"
  5. Assign the roles for the site element, and press "Finish"
