Upgrading your WebsydianExpress v2.x to WebsydianExpress v3.0.x

Side by side upgrade

The upgrade procedure when upgrading from WebsydianExpress v2.x to WebsydianExpress v3.0.x is based on a side by side approach. This means that you will be installing the latest release of WebsydianExpress v3.0 and then migrate your existing WebsydianExpress v2.x database to the WebsydianExpress v3.0.x, and then perform a number of tasks to migrate to WebsydianExpress v3.0. The side by side approach allows you to keep your existing WebsydianExpress production environment intact during upgrade and testing of your business processes.

Step 1: Install latest release of WebsydianExpress v3.0

Download the latest release of WebsydianExpress v3.0 from our download site at www.websydian.com and perform the installation as described in the installation documents.

Step 2: Copy and migrate your WebsydianExpress v2.x database to WebsydianExpress v3.0.x

The procedure of copying and migrating your existing WebsydianExpress v2.x database to WebsydianExpress v3.0.x depends on the platform of your database.

WebsydianExpress database on Microsoft SQL

1. Download the latest version of the upgrade tool from our download section at www.websydian.com
2. Make sure that you do a full backup of your WebsydianExpress v2.x database.
3. Run the upgrade program
   
   • Express v2.x database name, name of SQL database where WebsydianExpress v2.x database is located. Default value is WebsydianExpress20
   • Express v2.x admin folder name, the folder name where administration templates are located on your WebsydianExpress v2.x. Default value admin20
     
   • Express v2.x resource location, The first part of the URL pointing to the resources (images, CSS files etc) of your WebsydianExpress v2.x. Default value '/express20/res'
     
   • Express v2.x site location, The first part of the URL pointing to the location of your sites of your WebsydianExpress v2.0x. Default value '/express/site'
     
   • Express v3.0 database name, name of MS SQL database where WebsydianExpress v3.0 database is located. Default value is WebydianExpress30
   • Express v3.0 admin folder name, the folder name where administration templates are located on your WebsydianExpress v3.0. Default value admin30.
   • Express v3.0 resource location, the first part of the URL pointing to the resources (images, CSS files etc.) of your WebsydianExpress v3.0. Default value '/express30/res'.
   • Express v3.0 site location, the first part of the URL pointing to the location of your sites of your WebsydianExpress v3.0. Default value '/express30/site'.

WebsydianExpress database on iSeries

1. Download the latest version of the upgrade tool from our download section at www.websydian.com
2. Run the installation program for copying the WXP30UPG library to your iSeries
3. Make sure that you do a complete backup of your existing WebsydianExpress database library.
4. Run the upgrade program WXPUPG located in the WXP30UPG pressing the F4 to show available parameters making sure that all parameters are correct

   • Express v3.0 site location, the first part of the URL pointing to the location of your sites of your WebsydianExpress v3.0. Default value '/express30/site'.

Step 3: Upgrade the administration site from v2.x to v3.0.x

In order to get the latest functionality of the WebsydianExpress into your existing Administration interface please do the following:

1. Start the WebsydianExpress v3.0 and access the administration interface of one of your sites. Administration sites of your sites are now accessible in your new WebsydianExpress v3.0 instance.
   e.g. http://yourhostname/express30/site/basicsite/admin
2. Open the "Sites" menu on the left and select "Create Site", fill in the following information and press "Create" button.
   • Form action -> upgrade
   • Description -> For upgrading
   • Folder containing administration template -> admin30
   • Template path relative to root -> basicsite
     
3. When site creation has completed select the "Site Overview" in the left menu
4. Click the Administration url for the newly created upgrade site and login as WSADMIN using password ADMIN
5. In the upgrade site administration interface expand the "Utilities" menu item on the left and select "Update Admin".
   Press the "Open import file" button and locate the file "Administration Interface Upgrade.txt - v3.0.43" in the upgrade directory supplied with WebsydianExpress v3.0.
   Then press the "Import" button and wait for the update to complete.
   
6. This completes the task of upgrading all administration sites of your WebsydianExpress instance.

Step 4: Copy your html files and resources (images, CSS files etc.)

At this point the newly installed WebsydianExpress v3.0 will only have acces to the resources supplied with WesydianExpress.Please make sure that you copy all of your custom resources and html templates to your new WebsydianExpress instance and your web server or include the resources into the WAR file.

Step 5: Upgrade your business processes

Special considerations are required in order to migrate your existing business processes to WebsydianExpress v3.0.
