Quick installation guide for WebsydianExpress for Windows with an iSeries back-end

This guide provides everything you need to do in order to install WebsydianExpress for Windows with an iSeries back-end, quickly.

Step 1: Check prerequisites

iSeries

Servlet Engine

A servlet engine is required to run the Websydian Web Server Component.

For iSeries we recommend installing WebSphere Express.

If planning on deploying the Websydian Web Server Component on Windows we recommend installing the Apache Tomcat servlet engine.

Windows

WebsydianExpress supports current versions of Windows workstation and server supported by Microsoft.

The installation program also requires a connection to the iSeries using FTP.

Step 2: Obtain the latest version of the WebsydianExpress for Windows/iSeries installation program

Make sure that you have the latest version of the WebsydianExpress for Windows with an iSeries back-end installation program.

Current version and build is "WebsydianExpress v3.5 for Windows/iSeries"

Step 3: Install WebsydianExpress components

Before continuing make sure that you have installed a Tomcat servlet engine on your system or have access to a servlet engine.

  1. Start the WebsydianExpress installation program Express_v3.5_Windows-iSeries.exe. At any point during the installation feel free to press a Help button if you need further information
  2. On the 'Welcome' page press Next
  3. Press Next to accept the location used on your PC for objects required during installation
  4. Read and accept the SUN license agreement and press Next
  5. Read and accept the Websydian license agreement and press Next
  6. On the 'iSeries Information' page enter the following information and press Next
  7. Press Next to accept default URL information for accessing WebsydianExpress
  8. On the 'Regional Settings' page choose the formats you want and press Next
  9. Press Next to accept the default settings used to start the Websydian Server
  10. Press Next to accept the default settings used to start the Application Services
  11. Press Next to accept the default settings for deployment of the Websydian Web Server Component Servlet
  12. Press Install to start installation
    Note! During installation you will be prompted to accept deployment of the Websydian Web Server Component to your Tomcat, pres Yes
    In some cases, the install function will not be able to identify the Tomcat location (especially on Win 7) - or the location specified in the registry is wrong.
    In these cases, you will be prompted for the location of the Tomcat. Specify/select the top folder of the Tomcat installation (e.g. C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0).
  13. The last step performed by the installation program is the transfer of required objects to your System i, this can be a long running task, please be patient

Step 4: Run iSeries installation program

When the transfer of objects to your iSeries have been performed the install shield will present you with the "Transfer completed" dialog.
  1. Using Client Access logon to your iSeries with a user profile that has the authority to restore objects and create libraries and objects.
  2. On the command line run the command call qcmd followed by pressing the F11
  3. Add the library WXPW35INST to your library list using the command addlible
  4. Copy and paste the "iSeries Command" lines from the dialog "Transfer complete" to the command line of your Client Access.
  5. Execute the command WXPINST by pressing enter
    Note! The installation process can be a long running task, please wait.
  6. When installation have completed you will be presented with a success message.

  

Step 5: Manual deployment of the Websydian Web Server Component

Please perform the following tasks only if you where not asked to deploy the Websydian Web Server Component on your local Tomcat or if you would like to deploy the Web Server Component on another system or servlet engine.
  1. Locate the WAR file referenced in the Web Server Configuration dialog on the Transfer Complete dialog.
  2. Deploy the express35.war file to your servlet engine following the information in the manual of the servlet engine.
    Context root of the servlet should read express35

Step 6: Start the iSeries Plex Dispatcher on your System i

If you have not all ready started the iSeries Plex Dispatcher on your iSeries, please follow these steps.

The iSeries Plex Dispatcher objects are located in the WebsydianExpress program library, default named WXPW35PGM.

  1. Create a new user account named YOBSYDIAN
    This user profile will be used to start the iSeries Plex Dispatcher.
  2. Make sure that the newly created user have the following authorization
  3. To start the iSeries Plex Dispatcher run the following command

Step 7: Start WebsydianExpress 

The installation program have created a number of shortcuts in your Windows start menu

In order to start the WebsydianExpress select the menu short cut "Start WebsydianExpress" under the Websydian -> WebsydianExpress v3.5 for Windows and iSeries sub menu.

Please note when starting WebsydianExpress for the first time you will be asked to enter user and password for the iSeries connection. Make sure that you save user and password settings by checking the required check boxes.

Step 8: Access the WebsydianExpress demosite and administration interface

After starting WebsydianExpress the available sites can be accessed by entering the following web address in your browser:

http://<YourHostName>/express35/site/demosite

Make sure that you replace the '<YourHostName>' with the host name of your computer

Login with user Customer and password Customer to login to one of the sites and access the administration interface.

The web address used in this example is based on the default settings used by the installation program.

In order to access the administration part of the demosite append /admin to the url

http://<YourHostName>/express35/site/demosite/admin

Make sure that you replace the '<YourHostName>' with the host name of your computer

Login with user WSADMIN and password ADMIN in order to access the administration interface of the demosite.

 

Stopping WebsydianExpress

The installation program have created a number of shortcuts in your Windows start menu

In order to start the WebsydianExpress select the menu short cut "Stop WebsydianExpress" under the Websydian -> WebsydianExpress v3.5 for Windows and iSeries sub menu.

Obtain a license for the Websydian Server

By default the WebsydianExpress is installed with an unregistered license of the Websydian Server providing 10 concurrent sessions.

You have the option to obtain a registered version for 10 concurrent sessions for free that enables you to find a starting point on the number of concurrent sessions required by your applications.

Uninstalling the WebsydianExpress

The following are the steps to complete in order to completely remove WebsydianExpress v3.5 for Windows from your system

  1. In the Tomcat directory locate the webapps directory and remove the express35.war file
  2. In the program files directory locate the directory Websydian and delete the directory named "Express v3.5 for Windows and iSeries"
  3. On you iSeries locate and delete the libraries WXPW35*
