Introduction

Various bug fixes have been applied to the Websydian TransacXML Web Service patterns as well as a design change providing better usability for the developer:

• When sending SOAP messages the top element of the payload is not replaced by the SOAP Body element.
• When receiving SOAP messages the SOAP payload is not inserted into an XML document with a default top element.
• The SOAP header "SOAPAction" has been removed from the SOAP message.
• The value of the HTTP header "SOAPAction" may be surrounded with quotes (") as recommended by the SOAP standard.
• Improved error reporting.
• SOAP elements can use any prefix and is not required to use the default SOAP-ENV prefix.
• The Websydian web service layer reduces the number of temporary files written to disk thereby improving performance.

• ...various other minor improvements and fixes.

While these changes have been made trying to minimize the impact on existing applications, some of the above changes are so fundamental that they require existing applications to be modified when upgrading to Websydian 5.5.

Some of the modifications will be removal of code inserted to work around some of the bugs fixed in Websydian 5.5.

This upgrade guide is divided into two sections: Upgrade Overview and Upgrade Instructions. The first gives an overview of the bugs that have been fixed and how they impact existing applications. The latter contains the necessary upgrade steps that must be followed in order to upgrade a TransacXML Web Service application to Websydian 5.5.
